interviews Erwan Girard about the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2, which delivers transfer speeds up to 1,375 MB/s:
In case you didn’t get all that, here are the specs:
Internal Storage Media : 2 x PCIe Gen 2 SSDs (500 GB)
Interface : 2 x Thunderbolt™ 2 ports
Average Transfer Rate* : Reads: 1,375MB/s Writes: 1,180MB/s
Daisy Chain : Connect up to six Thunderbolt 2 devices
RAID Modes : RAID 0 / 1 / JBOD
Silent Cooling : All-aluminum enclosure with improved internal heat dissipation
Thermo-regulated cooling fan: effective and whisper-quiet cooling
*These transfer rates were achieved using AJA System Test when connected to a 15″ MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz Quad Core and 8GB RAM with 32k block size. Speeds depend on the RAID mode used, and average transfer rates may vary from one computer to another and from one product to another.
…not only can creative professionals stream and edit either 4K or 3D video, they can do in the field…
Right now, the only model is a 1 TB version (500 GB x 2) coming in Q1 2014. How much 150 MB/s 4K R3D footage can you cram into it? About 120 minutes worth. That’s not bad at all. It looks like a cool option for a DIT. What do you think?
