What is Autodesk Flame?
Autodesk Flame is a high end 3D visual effects, advanced graphics, and 3D compositing application that is out of the price range of most beginners (in the high five figures!). To make matters worse, you can’t even download a trial version to learn it.
Flame is mostly used in the TV commercials industry, where fast turnarounds are critical. It is almost always sold with workstation class hardware. An artist and facility who uses Flame will charge a premium over any other suite, which begs the question: Other than assisting an existing artist, how does one learn Flame? At the very least, one needs to know whether learning Flame is worth the trouble at all.
Luckily, Autodesk has released a series of learning videos so you can see for yourself if Flame is right for you. Here’s a basic overview:
