Most of the time I use Cine1 in its default profile. If you underexpose Cine1 as shown in another lesson you’ll get great results.

Here are the projects I’ve shot in Cine1 on the Sony a7R II:

Notes:

  • It wasn’t hard to match lighting or exposure because there were only two locations. I shot everything within a two-hour period.
  • The audio you hear is from the camera. My lav died and I had to make do with what I had.
  • The internal image stabilization works great.
  • I predominantly used the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS “kit” lens.
  • I recorded to the internal 100 Mbps 4K XAVC S codec.
  • It was edited and mixed in Adobe Premiere Pro 2015. The Lumetri panel was used to grade. I didn’t change most of the clips, only brought up the exposure or slightly corrected for skin tone (there are a couple of big mistakes, see if you can find them).

Notes:

  • This wasn’t a planned video, I just shot so much footage I had to make something out of it.
  • The timelapses used the JJC Intervalometer and the Pedco mini tripod.
  • I used all my lenses, and it was mostly handheld work. You can see when things get really shaky, the internal stabilization is of little use.
  • Timelapses were created in After Effects.

Notes:

  • This was the first video I shot for the Sony a7R II, and it was shot in the default profile.
  • There is very little color grading, though some corrections have been made for exposure, etc.
  • It was all tripod-based work, and graded with Lumetri.
  • Lens used was the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4
  • Lighting used for most of them: Arri HMIs (2.5Ks, 1.2Ks), a Joker 400W HMI and a 4-bank Kino-flo
  • Lighting used for the last section: Arri 650W fresnel and a Dedolight 150W.
