Current firmware: v2.6. Should you update? Yes!

Panasonic haven’t given up on the GH5. Nothing major, but some bug fixes. After all this time, it might be a good idea to update your camera.

Here’s the direct link.

Previous firmware: v2.1. Should you update? Yes!

There were a few bug fixes to 2.0 and Panasonic issued a fix. The new official review is out, you can watch it here.

Previous firmware: v2.0. Should you keep it? No. You need to move to firmware 2.1 pronto.

I’ll be covering the updates in this firmware soon, it should be done by the end of October 2017. Here’s a quick video on how to update (Warning: You are responsible for your own actions, please consult the links above for proper update procedure):

The important things you should be aware of:

  • Better AF for video (same workflow, the camera just does a better tracking job)
  • 10-bit 4:2:2 Intra 400 Mbps codec. The problem here is you need V60 class cards, which aren’t available yet. Panasonic is coming with a V90 class card, but it’s expensive!
  • 5K (What they call 6K) anamorphic mode, though you can only record in 200 Mbps interframe (the above codec is not available for anamorphic)
  • 4K HDR in HLG
  • Video Frame Markers (Guides)!
  • Anamorphic Desqueeze mode for 1.33x and 2x.
  • Better image stabilization

Previous firmware: v1.1. Should you update? Yes.

Here’s the firmware roadmap, hope they will follow it!
